Financial Tip

Settling assets after the loss of a spouse can feel overwhelming, but there are professionals to help. The first step is to set up your team of professionals including an attorney, tax professional, insurance agents, and financial advisor. You may find that each action seems to lead to subsequent actions (canceling a credit card may first require stopping an automatic payment, for example). Keep a notebook to track all notes in one place. Consider having a family member or friend attend meetings with you to have an extra set of ears. Ask your professionals to send you a summary e-mail after each meeting. Provide them with the contact details of your other professionals and ask them to collaborate on your behalf, keeping you updated and copied at all times.
